Early March 2013 we received an initial request from GIMT (Global Institute for Management and Technology) checking our interest and ability to supply trainers for a range of lifting and hoisting courses in Oman. Soon it became apparent that training courses had to be build up to a high standard, would be assessed by PDO (Petroleum Development Oman) and would hardly be available yet. That meant, there was more in the game than just a temporary contract for a competent trainer.
Having her full focus on lifting and hoisting, the management of 12hoist4u was able to conceive the situation in Oman and the objective of GIMT and decided to consult one of her respected business partners: SOMA bedrijfsopleidingen in Harderwijk. The combination of 12hoist4u and SOMA bedrijfsopleidingen with their international reputation as leading training provider for lifting and hoisting courses proved to result in a well received proposal.
Initial go – ahead for two courses for lifting supervisors was given already end of April.
That started the challenging period to get course content as well as competency of the trainer approved. With 12hoist4u clearly in the driver seat GIMT managed to set-up two courses for lifting supervisors already in June. For the initial courses Gerrit van Ee was selected as trainer, introduced to GIMT and approved by them.
The courses have been witnessed and assessed by representatives from Petroleum Development Oman and were qualified as, close to excellent.
Based on that assessment, GIMT has been approved as training provider by PDO for all required lifting and hoisting courses as per HSSE requirements. |
 The above achievement resulted in a Memorandum Of Understanding for a two year exclusive cooperation between the Al-Safwa Group & Partners and 12hoist4u.
Witnessed by local officials as well as Al Safwa’s team that contributed to the agreement and the success of the first courses, Mr. Vivek Sridhar and Mr. Isam Elmahdi, the MOU was signed by Mr. Warith Al-Kharusi, Executive Director and Chairman of the Al Safwa Group and Peter Verhoef, owner and managing director of 12hoist4u. |
The MOU basically has its focus on the development of a full set of courses for all roles and competences in lifting and hoisting such as: mobile crane operators, self loader crane operators, overhead travelling crane operators, lifting supervisors, banksmen, riggers, mobile elevated work platform operators and forklift truck operators. For these courses, 12hoist4u will be the exclusive partner in the supply of trainers. A further development foresees a “train the trainer” program in order to take language barriers for Arabic and Hindi speaking personnel.
In the same time, the MOU is open for the full spectrum of 12hoist4u recruiting services in the niche market of lifting and hoisting.
For Al Safwa Group it also paves the way for setting up lifting equipment inspection services with the backup of 12hoist4u independent inspectors. All in all, an Al Safwa headed centre of excellence for lifting and hoisting in Oman! |
